NO, you don’t need to attend classes to take the certification exams, but it definitely does help. Why? Because you’re actually working with the networking stuff (hooking them up, configuring them, etc.), and have the benefits of working with an instructor “in the know.” And often, they provide some hints or tips for the exam.

Question by diggity801: If I have a CCNA certification, will I be able to get a CCSP certification without getting a CCNP first?
I am currently in a Cisco CCNA networking academy. I wish to go to a CCSP boot camp afterwards. Is this reasonable? Do I need to know all the things in CCNP first before I try to take a CCSP exam?

CCNP and CCSP are quite separate. There is a bit of overlap (particularly with CCNP’s ISCW exam), but one is not a prerequisite of the other by any means. You need CCNA Security before you can go for your CCSP now, though.
