Agreed. Depends on what you define as a “good” job. A+ is pretty basic and not something I would consider difficult to get. Having said that, if you are going from frymaker at McDonalds – it’s probably going to help you get a “better” job.
If you want to work anywhere in the country at obscene rates, become an Oracle PL/SQL developer :-)

I am taking a Computer Repair & Maintanence course in college. I am wondering how do I go about obtaining the above certifications. I know that in IT CompTia A certification is mandatory for most positions. My college’s courses are not covered by those certifications. I would have to go about the exams on my own which really sucks in my case. I would like to know how to get the Microsofts certifications as well. Oh and the prices of these exams would help.

I already have an 8-Disc DVD tutorial guide and I have no problem spending money on some sample questions, but is that enough to pass the test? or should i enroll in bootcamp? I have no professional experience, but I know a decent amount about computers in general (i just built my second PC).

I got mine in May of 2006. I was just wandering if it ever expires like the mcse or the ccna. If it does, how long dose it last before it expires?

I just took a security course in which the book was based on preparing for the security+ exam and I was thinking about trying to get certified. How in depth is the test? Should I know stuff like specific cases of historic virus/attack cases or is it more general like public/private key stuff? Its kinda of a lot of money so I intend on passing it the first time.
